Top diplomats from Iran and Russia have spoken of their allegiance for Maduro while also expressing their disapproval of any possible American intervention in the country. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif spoke by phone yesterday in the hopes of uniting against America. In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said: “The foreign ministers discussed the current developments in Venezuela and noted their shared readiness to help facilitate mutual understanding between responsible political forces of Venezuela in the interests of maintaining domestic peace and resolving pressing socioeconomic challenges as soon as possible.”
Moscow has already volunteered to mediate between Maduro and opposition leader Juan Guaido who has proclaimed himself the “acting president” of the country.
Russia and Iran were joined in their support for Maduro by China, Turkey, Bolivia, Cuba, El Salvador and Nicaragua.
Moreover, just last month Russia sent an airforce delegation to Venezuela in a show of support for the acting president.
